Andrew Koster

 

 

ANDREW KOSTER
Producer, Director, Writer

Andrew Koster is a graduate of the University of Manitoba and Concordia University in Montreal, where he graduated with distinction in the Fine Arts (Film Production) program in 1984.

Koster's diverse career in the industry includes work as a film technician, film liaison officer, producer and director. His documentary A Kind Of Family, directed for the National Film Board of Canada, was nominated for a 1992 Genie Award for "Best Short Documentary".

In 1997, he became an Executive Producer at Credo Entertainment. His credits include the television movie Nights Below Station Street (CBC/Lifetime) and all 52 episodes of the television series World's Greatest Spas (WTN).

Koster left Credo in the summer of 2000 to concentrate on the development, production, and marketing of documentaries, drama, and factual entertainment. Production projects include Head Over Wheels (WTN), The End Of Evolution (Discovery Channel Canada) and Restitution (CBC–Witness), and many others.

Andrew Koster is a principal of Rainshadow Media Ltd. with partner Brenda Kovitz.

LENKA SVAB

Lenka Svab was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia. She is an editor of independent films in Canada whose challenging life experiences enhance the stories of the characters she edits. The stories often involve provocative and controversial themes. From the stories of Serbian immigrants adjusting to life in North America to the story of tens of thousands of institutionalized patients who were subjected to sterilization against their will in the 1920s, Svab’s work is varied. Both comedy and drama form the body of her work which include: My Father’s Angel, Heart Of The Sun, War Between Us, Now And Forever, Deluxe Combo Platter, Saint Monica, Summer Of The Monkeys, Johnny Tootall, Jeni Lego: Living In A Great Big Way, Manon Rheaume: The Woman Behind The Mask and Shadow In Deep Water.

BRENDA KOVITZ
Editor

In addition to her accomplishments as an editor, Brenda Kovitz produced, wrote and directed World’s Greatest Spas. After 52 episodes from around the globe (two or three times) Brenda has pretty much been thrown into every type of shooting scenario possible. As vice-president for Credo Productions, a division of Credo Entertainment Ltd., her responsibilities before World’s Greatest Spas included commercials and special projects, including All Aboard, a multi-screen, multi-sensory permanent theatre and the national and theatrical released commercials for Parks And Heritage Canada.

Before joining Credo, Kovitz was an independent commercial producer with a long list of national commercials in her background. She was the commercial producer or production manager for clients such as the Pan Am Games in Winnipeg, Walmart, University of Manitoba, and Manitoba Lotteries.

The list of accomplishments for Kovitz also include Assistant Manager of promotions for MTN (now the A Channel), director/producer of a local talk show on Calgary cable and an honours diploma from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Television Writing Producing and Directing.

Kovitz edited, as well as co-directed and co-produced, The Naughty Bits, the engaging six-part series about the cultural history of six body parts. She most recently finished a stint as series producer of The Shopping Bags, a Force Four production for the W Network.

DOUG SJOQUIST
Director of Photography

Doug Sjoquist’s camera and steadicam have taken him throughout Canada and around the world. Documentaries have ranged from ooligan fisheries in Knight Inlet in T’lina: The Rendering Of Wealth, to astronomy in the award-winning series Cosmic Highway and Heads Up. Other projects include V6A 1N6, a documentary about the drug abuse in the downtown eastside of Vancouver, the Emmy-nominated Asian gourmet food series Entrée To Asia and Running on a Dream: The Legacy Of Terry Fox. Drama series include Edgemont as director of photography, Northwood, and Lies From Lotus Land. With nearly thirty years in the business of making pictures there have been many other projects including biographies and music, sports, drama and current affairs series.

GLYNIS WHITING
Creative Consultant

Glynis Whiting works as a director, writer, producer and story editor of documentary and dramatic films. Her recent documentary, Weight Of The World (Writer/Director, NFB/CBC), was awarded a Freddie, a Chris, a Leo and a New York Festival award for Best Direction. Among her other credits are The Pink Card Club, Director (2002 drama, AMPIA Award nominee); When Girls Do It, Writer/Director (2001 documentary, CTV); Worst Case Scenario Writer/Director (2000 documentary, NFB/CBC, Prix Leonardo Award), and The Sterilization Of Leilani Muir, Director (1996 documentary, NFB/CBC Witness, nominated for Banff "Rocky" award). Whiting holds a Masters of Fine Arts degree from UCLA and is a graduate of the Banff Women In The Director’s Chair program. She is also a member of the Writers Guild of Canada and the Documentary Organization of Canada (DOC). Currently she has two documentaries in development and a feature film in development with Movie Central and Telefilm Canada.

TOBIN STOKES
Composer

Tobin Stokes is a prolific composer for documentary film. His music has been heard on all the major networks and stations in Canada. In addition, Stokes is a well-known composer for orchestra, choir, theatre, ballet, opera, and other ensembles. He has been commissioned by CBC Radio Two, Festival Vancouver, the British Columbia Choral Federation and many others. He composes music for large events, such as the opening and closing ceremonies of the XV Commonwealth Games, the 2010 Vancouver/Whistler Olympic Bid, and many other festivals and events. His music is published in the United Sates and Canada and has premiered in many countries. Tobin is currently a composer-in-residence with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra on Canada's West Coast.
